The analysis of different deposits in mountain valleys, as well as studies of river terraces, alluvial levels, lakes, paleosoils, loess, dunes, peat bogs, wetlands, fjords and oceans have made possible to link the sedimentary record to different climatic events. This fundamental tool, together with different chronologies and proxies, has delimited cold and warm periods, and wet versus dry periods, allowing the palaeoenvironmental reconstruction in different regions of the planet.

The current climate crisis and the growing acceptance of the anthropocene as a period of rapid changes on Earth’s surface highlights the importance of sedimentology as an integrative discipline that allows the reconstruction and understanding of environmental dynamics and evolution at different time scales and space under different endogenous and exogenous forces. The sedimentology community is called upon to contribute through sedimentological proxies to extend the time series of the instrumental record, as well as to contribute to the understanding of past and modern surface processes. In this context, the integration of sedimentological data with information from other disciplines attempts to dimension the magnitude of different natural hazards.

This special session aims to gather international research in which sedimentology has played an important role in identifying climatic changes during the Quaternary, as well as inferred palaeoenvironmental reconstructions together with limnological, hydrological, palynological and chronostratigraphical studies, among others. The main objective is to integrate the scientific community dedicated to
the reconstruction of environmental changes from the sedimentary record.

Deadline for submission of 1-page abstracts: 20th August 2021 (following the published author guide -4TH Circular-).

Contact: moreiras@mendoza-conicet.gob.ar, tania.villasenor@uoh.cl, f.pupim@unifesp.br

[5,17

post-2278","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticias","category-xvii-ras
["GET
